By Pacifist Anower Solim, 24th Nov, 2024

Hundreds of Rohingya youths along with their teachers came together today at the IOM football field in Camp 1-West to join the "Youth Movement for Arakan" campaign. This event organized by the FDMN organization aimed to motivate and empower young Rohingya to fight for their rights and future.

The campaign launched from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm where there is approximately 500 young students participated. The students wore white shirts and green longyis to show that they are also students of Myanmar and deserve the same rights as others in the country.

The FDMN organization played a key role in organizing the campaign. Before the event, they held meetings with community school teachers and students to explain the purpose of the Youth Movement for Arakan. Their message was clear: young Rohingya must take responsibility for fighting for their rights.

At the event, community elders gave motivational speeches. They told the youth that the task of achieving equal rights now lies with them. One elder said, "You can no longer say we did not guide you. From today, it is your responsibility to fight for our rights."

Teachers also spoke, encouraging students to unite and never give up. "This movement will continue until we have the same rights as other nationalities in Myanmar," said Mr. Noje Moulla, a community school teacher.

The campaign began with an opening speech from FDMN representatives by explaining the importance of the movement. Community elders followed, passing the responsibility of the struggle to the youth. Then, teachers shared messages about unity, education and determination. The event ended with a vow from the participants to continue the movement and a heartfelt statement from a student Omar Fycel who said, "Today, I rebuilt my hopes for Arakan after joining this Youth Movement for Arakan."

The campaign inspired many youths giving them hope and determination to fight for their rights. Participants left the event feeling united and motivated. The community now looks to its young generation to lead the way toward justice and equality in Myanmar.

The Rohingya are an ethnic group from Rakhine State in Myanmar. For decades, they have faced persecution and denial of basic rights. Many were forced to flee to Bangladesh where they live in refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar. Despite their struggles, the community remains determined to fight for their rights and recognition.

The Youth Movement for Arakan is a new step in this journey. It encourages young Rohingya to stand together and work for a future where they have the same rights as others in Myanmar.
